Historic Estate
La Torraccia
Guardian of memories, land of authenticity
The Conti Gigli Cervi Agricultural Company comprises two properties: the Historic Estate La Torraccia, which extends over about ten hectares on the hill overlooking Mount Canneto, and the second, the Historic Estate Il Pischiello, which overlooks the gentle slopes descending toward Lake Trasimeno, behind the municipality of Passignano, covering about five hectares. It can be reached along a long avenue of cypress trees, second only to the one in Bolgheri celebrated by Carducci.
FROM WATCHTOWER TO NOBLE RESIDENCE
THE HISTORY
Originally built as a watchtower—positioned within visual range of other similar structures erected throughout the territory to signal the possible arrival of enemy troops—La Torraccia stands along an important route for the passage of goods, located not far from the Adriatic coast of the peninsula and distant from the vast marshy areas of the Val di Chiana. Built around the mid-14th century, it lost its original designation as a military structure to become, in the mid-15th century, a noble residence that hosted members of several important Perugian families, such as the Graziani and the Narducci.
FROM WATCHTOWER TO NOBLE RESIDENCE
THE HISTORY
Now a private residence, La Torraccia is home to the Agricultural Company of the same name, where the Conti Gigli Cervi family passionately cultivates an extensive olive grove with Leccino, Frantoio, Moraiolo, and Dolce Agogia cultivars that produce high-quality olive oil. An important contribution to oil production comes from the centuries-old trees at Il Pischiello, from which a Single-Variety Secular Oil of the Dolce Agogia cultivar is produced.
For the Conti Gigli Cervi family, the Estate is much more than a place: it is a promise that renews itself, a legacy to preserve and pass on. Where watchtowers once stood, today there are attentive hands working with care.
the beating heart of the estate
THE GIGLI CERVI
FAMILY
Being guardians of this historic residence means living every day in dialogue with the past: the walls, the landscape, and the agricultural tradition remind us that work is not just production but the continuation of a centuries-old story. The history of the place profoundly influences the production philosophy: by choosing processing methods that respect time and nature, combining modern techniques with ancient knowledge, an oil is created that is not just food, but a legacy to pass down. At the foundation of the Company is the Family: not rhetoric, but the concrete presence of all members, from the patriarch to the youngest, to whom the importance of the bond with the land and with one’s origins is conveyed from an early age.
